The Exciting New 2012 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

The Chevrolet Camaro hit the scene in the North America in 1966. General Motors, Chevrolet’s owners, wanted to build a car to provide much needed competition to the market dominating Ford Mustang. The 1967 Camaro shared a chassis and many major components with the Pontiac Firebird (another General Motors company), and so the time required and finances required to produce the car were greatly lowered.

Regarded as a muscle car, or a ‘Pony’ car, a term which back then referred to small vehicles that were both affordable and had a sports car feel about their looks (a trend started by the Ford Mustang in 1964), the car lined up next to an ever growing selection of vehicles that were struggling for an ever increasing market. US owners loved the performance, the sports feel and the great value of the vehicles and the multiplying sales ensured that many vehicle producers made their own variations out as fast as they could.

The 1970′s and 80′s were the car’s height, when the car was wanted by millions of buyers, not only in the States but across the globe. The balance of looks, power and numerous TV shows using muscle cars added to a huge market, and the desire for many to own one never went away.

Five distinct generations of the car have been produced. Generations one to four were produced between 1966 and 2002 (when producing of the Camaro and Firebird both ceased), and building of the fifth generation Camaro began once more in 2009 and against strong opposition to such polluting big engined vehicles from campaigners, the car has proven to once again be a big success with the American public.

The car was at times available in a hardtop coupe and a soft top convertible, the convertible was hugely popular with owners from sea bordering areas who enjoyed the thought of driving along the beach roads with the roof down, the music up and the sunglasses on. A number of Camaro’s have been seen in movies, most recently a Camaro was the vehicle mode car for the Bumblebee character from the 2007 movie Transformers, being both a 1976 model, and later a fifth generation version. The car has a large group of fans with many folks owing every generation of the car at one time or another and others hanging on to original 1960′s models and maintaining them in showroom condition.

The car has been a very popular car for modification through the years, with owners spending time and money adding high performance additions to improve their car’s style and performance. The car’s have also been very strong in autosport winning many Trans-Am series titles and lots other races and titles through its lifetime. Many motor racing enthusiasts still use old generation Camaro’s these days and are still very successful, winning when against much more modern competition.

The Camaro is still with us today, and with its history, performance and great style from the latest generation version, the Camaro is bound to be with us for years to come.
