Rise Against- The Best of Punk Rock
Chicago, Illinois is the place of origin of American punk rock band, Rise Against. It is among the older established bands having been around for a little over ten years.
Past Story
It was the members of 88 Fingers Louie and Baxter that originally got together to create the group Transistor Revolt. It was Tim Mcllrath who took the lead on vocals while Toni Tintari handled the drums. Mr. Precision took on the guitar while Joe Principe tackled bass. The two also provided backup vocals. The group was able to independently release an EP demo with four tracks. It was called “Transistor Revolt.” It was after this that they were then able to ink a record deal.
Tony Tintari never moved on beyond the initial EP band work. He left and the band commissioned Dan Lumley to handle drums. Lumley left early too and was replaced by Brandon Barnes. Barnes is still with the group today playing in the same capacity.
A year later, the band signed with independent label Fat Wreck Chords. Prior to the release of their first album, the name of the band changed to Rise Against. “The Unraveling” was the name of their debut album released on April 2001. Mr. Precision left the band after the release and was replaced by Todd Mohney. Work began on their second album titled “Revolutions per Minute” which saw a release in 2003.
The band began to move towards the mainstream path when they signed a deal with Dreamworks Records in 2004. This paved the way for the release of their third album, “Siren Song of the Counter Culture” in the same year. Dreamworks was later taken in by the Universal Music Group and Rise Against moved on to Geffen Records.
Todd Mohney left the band after the label changed and Chris Chasse stepped up to be the new guitarist. Chris Chasse remained in the band till 2007 after the fourth Rise Against album was released. After he left, Zach Blair replaced him. The four members proceeded to work on their fifth album and a couple of Rise Against video releases and still remain together.
Studio Albums Released
The album “The Unraveling” was the first album in 2001 for the group under the name Rise Against. The initial EP demo tracks were made while Brandon Barnes was still with the group. A couple of years later, the work was remixed, remastered and then released a second time. With record label Fat Wreck Chords, “Revolutions per Minute” came to be. This album sat on the fifteenth spot of the 2003 Billboard Top Independent Albums.
When the band signed up with Dreamworks label, their third album “Siren Song of the Counter Culture” was recorded. This was considered a major release and it got some average to high feedback from fans and critics. It was their fourth album “The Sufferer the Witness” that earned high success selling over 48,000 copies in its first week of release. Critics didn’t like their latest album “Appeal to Reason” as much, but it still managed to sell more copies (64,000+) that week and peaked at number 3.
It seems future additions to the Rise Against discography will no longer be a part of the underground scene. This has led to a slew of mixed feedback from music fans. It seems though that the band is all set to take on greater challenges. A new album is slated to be recorded in autumn of 2010 and the group is scheduled to open for Green Day.
