Interestly this mountain bike company actually started life as a weapons and ammunition company.In its infancy, the business made rifles and pistols as well as cartridges. Orbea continued making weapons all the way up until when the Spanish Civil War Ended when it was hit by a drop in demand.Also, in 1926, family problems meant that the family business split into two separate companies. As is normal for well known and highly respected biking brands, Orbea has always supported and maintained close links with high profile biking teams. Two of the teams with which it has strong ties are Euskaltel-Euskadi and Xacobeo-Galicia.But since 2005 Orbea mountain bikes has also had its very own team.
These days, many Europe-wide biking events are sponsored by Orbea and therefore the company’s products are often to be found as prizes in high profile races. Modern, carbon fibre frames are common on their current designs.And the company also makes several bikes with frames made entirely of aluminium, which are incredibly lightweight and popular.
With more and more publicity from event sponsorship under its belt, Orbea mountain bikes have a very bright future. Orbea sponsors some of Spain’s biggest events in the field of mountain bikes which welcome participation from professionals and members of the public.The fact that their bikes are now supplied all over the world serves to demonstrate their quality.
