Gifted Artists Excel With Foundational Instruction
Michael was to have his very first art show in the near future. While he had attended many art shows he had never before been featured. He had passionately studied his craft for many years and now, for the first time, his works would be on display for all to see. He felt this to be a fitting and a very exciting reward for his years of dedication and effort. As he looked back over the time spent studying his craft, he thought about all the classes he had taken and about the experiences he had which brought him to this point in time. His exposure to a variety of mediums and fields throughout his formative years had helped him develop his skills and fine tune his gifts. For those pursuing dreams in this type of field getting experience working with as many mediums as possible is crucial to overall development and success. If you are considering seriously studying this type of creative pursuit, experience and classes within the following areas is sure to build a solid foundation for success.
• Consider starting with a very basic class such as drawing 101, even if you feel your skill level is advanced. such a class. Many who have a natural talent for drawing may feel that their natural abilities are past an introductory course. Despite the presence of intrinsic ability,an overview of basic drawing techniques and introductory practices can provide necessary knowledge and give structure to natural talent.
• Practice drawing with charcoal and pencil. Shading and lighting techniques can be well studied using these materials. These basic substances are rudimentary to a study of drawing.
• Watercolor painting offers its own unique set of challenges and techniques. Do not pass by this painting element even if you favor contemporary style and substance.
• Oil based paints are rich and powerful and bring about intense emotional pictures. After working with a variety of materials, many people choose to work exclusively with this medium because they feel oils are the best choice for their gifts and expressions.
• Work with all materials to gain practice in the development and execution of creating scale and perspective. Resist the temptation to limit yourself during your developmental years. The more diversity the better should be a perspective you take.
• Consider adding computer aided coursework to get a graphic design focus into your repertoire. Graphic design abilities are commercially viable in a way that natural work sometimes is not. While this may not be a primary concern for you it may be useful as you seek to earn a living pursuing your passions.
While it is true that natural talent is the best foundation for a gifted creator, the experience that comes with exposure to a number of opportunities should never be overlooked. Additionally, the individual with raw talent who allows that talent to be molded and taught by those with insight and experience will only improve his or her skills. Studying creative pursuits brings about a satisfaction all by itself but seeing success in those pursuits can be the basis for a lifetime of satisfaction and enjoyment.
