10 Ways to Have a Better Week at Work
It’s inevitable that everyone has a bad week from time to time. Sometimes, before we realize it, the bad weeks are coming more and more often, until we are almost hating our jobs. In these tough economic times, changing jobs is not always an option, so we all need to be aware of how to improve things right where we are. Below are 10 simple steps that may help you improve your work week, starting today.
1) Have a positive attitude. There is no doubt that this can be a challenge when we are unhappy with our jobs. However, it’s worth working on, because it is a fact that when we decide to have a better mindset, things seem to go better. Make up your mind to think the best about where you are. Just start with the fact that you should be thankful that you have a job and take the rest from there.
2) If you are having relationship problems at work or home, begin to work on them and get things ironed out. Obviously, things can’t be fixed overnight in many cases. However, there are circumstances where a kind word, an apology, or a note of thanks can mend some walls. Do your part to help make things right with those you love and work with. Sometimes, a simple talk can take care of most problems in a relationship.
3) Take care of yourself. It is going to affect every area of your life if you are eating junk food everyday and not sleeping enough. It’s time to opt for some healthier choices, get some exercise and take care of your body. This alone can help change your attitude and help you feel better about everything in your life.
4) Figure out exactly what the problem is. Sometimes, we are not even aware of why we are in a rut or frustrated. Write down the pros and cons of your job, or find someone to discuss it with to help you figure things out.
5) Practice some stress-reducing techniques. Different things work for different people. Some people find that they can relax better after a weekly massage or warm bath before bed. Others keep a journal or pray. Still others find that a brisk walk will help them reduce stress. Try various techniques until you find one that works for you.
6) Be kind to others. It is a proven fact that when you reach out to other people, it is therapeutic to you as well. When we take the time to be kind, patient, and forgiving, we will feel better about our lives as well. Being angry, bitter and impatient will only add to your stress and make your life more difficult.
7) Don’t procrastinate. So many people get burdened down with their work because they put things off until the last minute. When you know an assignment must be done and you have a deadline, don’t wait until you are in the mood to do it. Start as soon as possible so you can get it done, put it behind you and move on to something that you enjoy more.
Invest in some good office furniture. It’s a known fact that when you are comfortable at work you are going to do a better job. You should consider investing in some office ergonomics to help relieve everyday stress. An ergonomic office chair will allow you to adjust your arms, back and legs to a comfortable fit, reducing stress at your desk. An ergonomic desk has been proven to help workers be more effective at work.
9) Give yourself some time to work through things. In other words, realize that most of the time, things work themselves out. Life is always changing, and if we will just be patient with others and ourselves, we will see things change once again. Don’t be hasty to make a change; wait for awhile and see if it doesn’t take care of itself.
10) Be kind to yourself. You work hard and you deserve to have a break now and then. Don’t be a workaholic to prove something to yourself or someone else. You will be a much happier, healthier and productive worker if you will take time out to enjoy life. Find a hobby, exercise or activity that you enjoy and that relaxes you and start fitting it into your schedule.
We all grow discontent with our jobs from time to time. Knowing how to handle ourselves during this time can be a challenge. Hopefully, by applying the above principles, you can find some peace at your job and be ready to move on to the next project.
