Just What To Look Forward To With The Excellent Wii’s Red Steel 2!

number of exclusive titles, such as Red Steel. This game was essentially a FPS in which the player could switch between gun action and sword action by employing the Wii remote or nunchuk. This impressive gameplay generated much excitement all over the gaming society, and also the game was amongst the highest selling launch titles for Nintendo’s console. Developers Ubisoft have finally developed a sequel, and Wii’s Red Steel 2 is due out this Spring.

Wii’s Red Steel 2 is transfering the action from the Mafia oriented mob storyline of the original and relocating to a desert area, in which you control the shadowy ‘Swordsman’. In quest of revenge on a range of enemies, you fight your way through numerous environments using the same play method as in the original.

The controls are fine tuned to a great level with this game. Despite the high sales of the original, one problem that was continually cited by critics was that the controls didn’t accurately transfer player actions to the screen. By employing the new WiiMotion Plus Wii’s Red Steel 2 intends to counteract this problem considerably.

Also, the game takes a fresh visual approach. Instead of the realistic look of the original, Wii’s Red Steel 2 is finished with a cell shaded look, giving the game a nicely stylised finish. Multiplayer has also been dropped from this game, as Ubisoft state they wanted to put all their energy into creating the most effective single player campaign achievable.

The original Red Steel was something of a flawed work of art; it had all the promise to be an impressive and innovative game but was simply let down by lacklustre controls. If Wii’s Red Steel 2 will rectify this problem, then we might be seeing a really impressive game.
