If you are surrounded by other art enthusiasts, there is a possibility that you will become popular based on certain works. You should also look into different ways of promoting your work around your general area, in different stores and restaurants.
Art is great to look at, but there are many reasons why it is not as well-known as it should be. Getting art involved with a common community lifestyle can do a lot for your work even if you did not realize it before. You do not have to think of it as a job, but simply others looking at your work and either liking it or not.
