There are many techniques that can be used to drive traffic to your website, but when it comes down to it, they all fit in one of the THREE list building aims to discuss the best methods in each of these three areas, so that newbies and relatively unsuccessful internet marketers can harness these techniques to good effect in order to gravitate traffic to your website in droves.

Let’s begin with “buying your list”. The main technique in this category is Google AdWords. Must people have heard of Google AdWords, however it is probably safe to say that AdWords are shrouded in mystery, with well worn stories of amateurs losing fortunes because they chose the “wrong” keywords, which ultimately turned out to be more expensive than the value of the leads.

In fact much of the internet marketing (IM) niche is focused on digital products, however, sites like Commmission Junction do operate an affiliate programme for physical products, that is things that require to be delivered by post or courier. Obviously, as these products have costs related to manufacture and/or delivery, the commissions paid on these types of products are far smaller than digital download products, which of course can be automated, so the seller doesn’t even need to get involved in delivery.

Right, let’s now turn to “building your list”. The common techniques for building a list includes activities such as blogging, article writing, and relationship building (similar to that of the offline marketer). This strategy is often phrased as “web 2.0″. Web 2.0 describes the use of social networking, bookmarking, and article publication that proliferates the internet today. Social networking sites have taken internet marketing by storm and most people have heard of sites such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Stumbleupon, and Digg. They all have their own uses, i.e. from mainstream blogging sites such as Blogger to micro blogging sites like Twitter). Micro blogging sites use much less words or characters in each “tweet” (coined by Twitter). This makes for a much more real time experience.

The use of videos on websites has exploded in recent months, because market research indicates that web surfers are much more inclined to view videos than they are to sit and read text. Sites such as Youtube and Google Videos are good examples of this form of marketing.
