Anchor Text and Link Building
One thing that we all certainly know is that a good way to improve on a Site’s ranking or search engine results is by building links from similar sites. There are many internet marketing tools to streamline the process. But is that all you need to do to achieve the results you are looking for? Most SEO consultants mention that it is not only about the incoming links. The anchor text that anchor those links is what really makes the difference. So that begs the question, how can you use anchor text properly?
Anchor text is the text you click on in an active link. The exact wording of the anchor text should be the exact phrase you are trying to rank well for. The highlighted text on the link that you can see is called Anchor text.
For a quick example, you can use this sentence: I want a link exchange program. “link exchange program” is your anchor text.
Links are the backbone for all the search engines since they travel or crawl around the web via these links. They are the main indicators that tell the search engines the page topics. Most of the new site owners focus should be on building links to your page, but don’t forget about the anchor text.
When the search engines have considered as the deciding factor on which one ranks higher. A site may have optimized itself nicely, but with no attention to the anchor text on incoming links it probably will not have as good of placement in the search results as it could.
You should keep this in mind when building a linking campaign for the internal pages of your site as well. Good planning when choosing keywords can also help boost your main page, while boosting the rank for your internal pages. This, together with the correct internal structure of your web site, will help promote not only internal pages, but also the home page.
