How do you survive in this financial crisis, you may be asking? Have you been laid off, lost your job, downsized, or just fired? Before I share with you the secret to making money even during hard times, I would like to share this story with you.

Last week, I went to the doctor for my annual checkup. Before I went into the doctor, the nurse took my weight, temperature and settled me in an empty room for the doctor. While she was doing the preparation, we began to talk and the topic went to the financial crisis. She loved to talk and really wanted to vent to someone so I listened.

I started explaining to her about no load mutual funds, what FDIC meant and index funds. She looked at me with a blank stare and I realized that she was really very scared.

She then asked if I could take a look at her investments. She had an appointment with her financial guy that evening and had it in her car. She almost catapulted to her car to get it and I could see the fear in her eyes. She did not even wait for me to tell her that I did not know everything.

The fact is that people will do anything when they are in a financial crisis and fear is what drives them. The pain of losing years of retirement fund or losing a job in this economy is too much for most people to deal with. People will share their life’s story and their financial situation with you to see if you can help them.

I am telling you this story to share that others are going through a lot too. It is not just you. I, too, am concerned about my financial portfolio and the stock market conditions.

I am not as anxious as a lot of people are. If you really pay attention to what I am about to tell you, you will understand why.

Have you had this experience before? –> You receive an e-mail from an Internet marketing “guru” endorsing a new product. You then click through to the website which displays the web copy — and you buy (or don’t buy) the product based on the strength of the endorsement — not necessarily on how well the copy is written.

Sound familiar?

This model of doing business has been used successfully, both online and offline. Endorsements by “big name” personalities — or people we at least admire or respect — influence our frame of mind so much that we tend to look favorably on whatever it is they’re endorsing. And sometimes this “star struck” response makes us perceive the web copy favorably as well, no matter how cheesy it might be.

This got me thinking about how well a piece of web copy would perform if it were to stand alone — without someone’s endorsement preceding the website visit. Could this be the reason why Internet marketing “gurus” boast off-the-charts sales figures — because they have an army of joint venture partners endorsing their product — something most of us “average Joes” will never have? More importantly, has this “old boy” network given rise to the proliferation of sub-standard web copywriting because of the complacency that the copy is given the “halo” of credibility by endorsements?

Indeed, when you look closely at the caliber of web copywriting that many of the top marketers utilise, it insults the intelligence of people and often elicits the reaction, “Do people really buy this crap? Whom do they think they’re fooling?”

Between 2005 to 2008, I believe there’s been a progressive decline in the effectiveness of the salesletter. So much so that in late 2007, Michel Fortin published a 51-page report titled “The Death of the Salesletter” which talks about the downhill weakening in the effectiveness of the typical “Dear Friend” sales copy as far as selling on the Internet is concerned.

In the report, the author admits that most of the other top Internet marketers like John Reese predict the eventual demise of “ugly websites” (long-scrolling formulaic web copy with the usual glaring fonts, the laundry list of overvalued bonuses, the endless P.S.’s, etc.). These are sites that Armand Morin calls “cartoonish” websites. Many other Internet marketing leaders like Mike Filsaime also agree that the cookie-cutter website copy is falling out of favor.

Michel calls for a move toward writing more editorial-like web copy that gives more content; turning the sales process into an experience; eliminating overused copywriting tactics that no longer work — and ultimately producing copy that’s stronger, pithier and more to the point.

Recently, I found a website that features irresistible web copy that I think ought to be the new standard for writing copy for the Internet population. It’s written in the editorial style and it’s a refreshing departure from the hackneyed, “snake oil salesman,” Slick Willie kind of sales pitching. It gives a lot of compelling information before “going for the kill” and it made me feel like I was reading an informative article about a topic of interest to me, instead of being sold to.

It employs an elegant, soft sell approach that, nevertheless, packs a powerful punch — and best of all, it respects, not insults, the intelligence of the reader. In my opinion, this is compelling web copy that we should all emulate. The copy still utilised a long-scrolling webpage, but I found it a highly intriguing and entertaining read. I didn’t read every word on the webpage, of course (who does nowadays?) but I found myself buying the $39.95 eBook on my very first visit — something I rarely do.

Considering that I was a cold prospect who arrived at the website after clicking on a Google search result, and I didn’t arrive there via the endorsement of a colleague or “guru” — and on top of all that, I’m definitely not one who’s easily “sold” — this speaks volumes about the power of this piece of web copy.

Granted, I happen to be the exact target audience of the eBook being sold on the website (titled “The One-Minute Cure: The Secret to Healing Virtually All Diseases”), I still think there’s a lot of magic going on in this editorial style of web copywriting.

It would be immensely valuable for marketers to deconstruct the sales copy to discover the elements that make people want to buy. Better still, if we can find out who wrote this brilliant web copy, we can pick his or her brain to see if we can learn the hidden psychology behind this kind of copy.

If we, marketers, learn the inner workings of this editorial style of web copywriting, we could all make a bloody killing in them thar Internet hills!

If this trend towards editorial style copywriting were to become the norm, I can’t help but wonder what will become of those fill-in-the-blanks template-based copywriting programs that produce cookie-cutter pieces of web copy that look like everyone else’s.

Pyramid schemes – also referred to as Ponzi schemes (after Charles Ponzi, who ran the original one in 1920) – are structured such that they utilise the entry fees from investors to make profits for the earlier entrants to the scheme.

They have no real product, the only genuine money being used is the entry fee. Be careful, certain pyramid schemes will have very tenuous “products” which cannot really be sold to anyone who isn’t a member of the scheme. That’s why, when you are considering any investment, online or offline, a good product is one of the key criteria you should look for.

Let’s have a look at Charles Ponzi’s famous scheme. It’s a perfect illustration of what you should avoid.

The 1920′s Ponzi Scheme:
Carlo (Charles) Ponzi was born in Italy in 1882 and emigrated to the United States in 1903. He travelled around the country for 14 years, during which time he held a variety of jobs. Ponzi eventually settled in Boston in 1917.

A couple of years later, in 1919, whilst performing research into a business venture which would involve publishing a magazine, Ponzi entered into correspondence with a business associate in Spain. At one point in their correspondence, Ponzi’s Spanish associate sent an international postal reply coupon for Ponzi’s use. The coupon was included so that Ponzi could take it to a US post office and swap it for postage stamps.

The coupon had been purchased in Spain for the equivalent of 1 cent. However, when Ponzi changed it at his local US post office he received 6 cents worth of postage stamps!

Ponzi decided to set up a business to exploit the huge difference in the value of the international postal reply coupons. He planned to buy them in foreign countries, exchange them in the USA and earn large profits in the process. Not such a bad idea really – you can see how Ponzi might have hoped to profit using this technique.

Unfortunately, all the red tape, bureaucracy and the lengthy timeframes needed to transfer foreign currency at that time, ate away at his profits and his scheme lost money. Undaunted, Ponzi registered his company at the end of December 1919 and guaranteed his investors a 50% return on their money within 90 days. In fact, he maintained that he could deliver a 50% return within 45 days – equivalent to doubling your money in 90 days.

During the first six months of 1920 thousands of people invested money in Ponzi’s scheme. It’s estimated – although it can’t be confirmed with 100% certainty – that over 10,000 people paid out in excess of $9.8 million over an 8 month period. Ponzi used the cash coming in from later investors to pay off those who had invested earlier. Simply put, he robbed Peter to pay Paul.

Needless to say, as the scheme grew, there simply weren’t enough people coming into the scheme to pay off the earlier investors. Ponzi was arrested in August 1920 and, after a lengthy audit of his books he was jailed for 5 years. A lot of people lost a lot of money.

The Difference Between A Ponzi Scheme And A Pyramid Scheme:
Today the terms Ponzi scheme and pyramid scheme are frequently used to mean the same thing. However, there is a slight difference.

A true ponzi scheme generally promotes what appears to be a real investment opportunity which investors may contribute to without actually being an affiliate, distributor etc. A pyramid scheme, on the other hand, normally requires that participants make a payment for the right to recruit other people into the scheme, at which point they will receive payment.

At the end of the day, this may be splitting hairs a little. The main messageis that people lose money in either of these schemes. Avoid them like the plague. Evaluate your business opportunities in a logical manner – and pay particular attention to the product or range of products on offer – and you will easily avoid being caught up in one of these illegal schemes.

A little known method to increase the relevancy of AdSense’s ads on your site without modifying your content visually is by forcing AdSense to focus on or ignoring certain sections. This is called “section targeting.”

Online Advertising Techniques
Section targeting allows you to suggest sections of your text and HTML content that you’d like Google AdSense to emphasize or downplay when matching ads to your site’s content. By providing Google AdSense with your suggestions, you can assist Google AdSense in improving your ad targeting. Although implementation is easy, I recommend that only those familiar with HTML attempt to implement section targeting.

To implement section targeting, you’ll need to add a set of special HTML comment tags to your code. These tags will mark the beginning and end of whichever section(s) you’d like to emphasize or de-emphasize for ad targeting.

The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format:

You can also designate sections you’d like to have ignored by adding a (weight=ignore) to the starting tag:

You can use section targeting to make suggestions about as many sections of a page as you like. However, please be aware that Google AdSense can’t guarantee results, and that it may take up to 2 weeks before Google’s crawlers take any changes you’ve made to your site into account.

In order to properly implement this feature, you’ll need to include a significant amount of content within the section targeting tags. Including insufficient content may result in less relevant ads or Public Service Ads. In addition, please keep in mind that this feature should only be used to emphasize significant sections of your site’s relevant content. It is against Google AdSense’s program policies to manipulate the ad targeting to result in ads that are not relevant to the content of your pages.

So the bottom line is to use section targeting wisely. This means you do not wrap a single sentence or even a medium-sized paragraph in section targeting tags.

One real-life example that I’ve used myself in the past is ignoring menus. NOTE that Google AdSense ignoring your menus does NOT mean Google’s Crawler will so no worries there. I had a menu section with links to articles on a huge variety of topics. Most topics were totally unrelated to the specific page / article. Since I wanted ads to be relevant to the currently viewed article, I wrapped my menu in ignore tags and wrapped my article in ad_section targeting tags. After a few weeks, my Google AdSense ads did become much more relevant and I didn’t see the random ads that were related to the topics in my menu anymore!

The things that I did not like about the Google Wealth Maker package

The software has monthly membership use. It can only be used on the Internet and to maintain the servers, the cost is $77. I wish it was something I could download one time and use as I like. However, Eric says that the $77 also allows you to get future updates and new additional software that you don’t have to ever pay for. Also, this is by invitation only.

The doors are only open to someone who gets the Google Wealth Maker link here. This means you cannot purchase this from Clickbank or anywhere else online, but through that link. This limits those who don’t know that the software exist, but I guess these guys are not into the massive, but the ones who really want to make loads of money online.

In concluding, I am hoping that Eric Rockefeller and Howie Schwartz will think about offering the Google Wealth Maker to other people who may find their link online when surfing. , I am sure that they will certainly do that.

If you are interested in increasing your affiliate marketing commission in a massive way, then Google Wealth Maker is definitely a recommended product.

The product follows up with a membership site where you are given additional training on how to use the Google Wealth Maker and more internet marketing stuff. However, I have to keep my comments away from that for now until I have a chance to review the membership site.
